sew in love... with the fine art of thread

...I can't walk out of a fabric shop without at least of yard of something beautiful in my hand and I always have to stop by and gaze at the spools of thread. I could pick up dozens of different colors to compliment that one piece of fabric!...These beautiful photographers have truly captured my love of thread!

...as I was posting this feature, it occurred to me that I not only love thread even more :), but I love how these images came together to represent a fiber of strength and confidence for me. I just recently starting blogging and kind of felt as though I was a single strand of thread, I wanted to share what was in my heart, but I was fearful of standing alone in this blogosphere...but, there I went anyway...and things started to slowly blossom and I've met wonderful artisans and bloggers who also share their love of creating from the heart. They may have shades of likeness in their spirit, yet quite unique voices. I'm encouraged by their words and I'm just becoming to turn my someday-one-day doubts to a do-what-you-love kind of inspired life. I've met people who lift and support me and keep me balanced {as I hope to do the same for them}. Like the dozens of thread that compliment one piece of fabric, I'm thankful and love being in the company of those who inspire me take a look at all the possibilities!~

A Printmaking Project ~ Book Giveaway

I've been debating all week as to what my next giveaway would be... should it be One Yard Wonders {the answer to my fabric hoarding collecting 'I'll-use-this-to-make-something-cute-someday' project}, The Happiness Project {I'm happy, really I am, darn it, who doesn't need another project so early in the year? And if the title says 'project' somewhere...I'm there}, 4 Hour Workweek {ohh...wish I was there ~ more time to blog!}? I know you would join me on any of these ventures {still a future possibility?}, but I chose another book for now and I do believe you will be pleased!

{Printing By Hand by Lena Corwin}

The inspiration ~ I recently discovered Lauren and her wonderful blog, A Fabulous Fete, and she posted that she was interested in block printing {she says obsessing...ahh, my kind of crafter} ever since she saw this DIY project over at High Heeled Foot in the Door. Well, it got me obsessing, too! I've never tried block printing. I've only dabbled in potato stamping :). I didn't have any techniques to offer Lauren. Thankfully, my obsession this week brought Printing By Hand into my library of craft books...

This is what I love about Lena Corwin's book: Her details in getting started! She does not miss a beat ~ She really takes you step by step in the all important beginning process of material and tool selection, choosing your surface, creating a design, how to select inks and paints, clean-up, tips, and resources. Each chapter {stamping, stenciling, and screen printing} has six generous and beautiful projects, and full size templates are included, too! From stationery to home accessories, each project is fun and easily doable for a novice or a seasoned printmaker. Oh, and it's spiral bound {yay! lays flat!}. And beautiful photography by Thayer Allyson Gowdy! Take a look inside the book here!

I'm really excited about Printing By Hand and I want you to have a copy, too! ~
